Ron worked in wood and metal for 25 years and then decided to explore the world of glass. He studied with Susan Maxfield and learned about the many facets of fused glass with its myriad possibilities. Fused and slumped glass is a unique artistic endeavor and combines Ron’s strong creative style with a keen interest in the science and flexibility of glass.

Working with a spectacular palate of iridescent and solid colored glass, Ron is able to create one of a kind glass art pieces that are both artistic and functional. Each piece is distinctive in its design and dramatic use of color and hand made, multi-colored coiled elements.

In 2001, Ron was commissioned by KPIX Channel 5 to be one of the artists in the extensive downtown San Jose public art exhibit called “Sharkbyte” that featured 90 6-foot sharks. Ron’s sculpture called “Silicon Valley Shark” featured a computer, SUV, money, sunglasses and a shark covered in CDS that looked like shimmering scales. It was an impressive shark and helped raise $260,000 for local bay area charities.

Ron grew up on the peninsula and graduated from Menlo Atherton High School and has a BA degree from the University of California at Davis. He was the owner of a successful rose growing nursery in Half Moon Bay and was the Director of the Arboretum at the University of California in Santa Cruz. He has an extensive background in national, state and community organizations including being on the boards of the Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market in San Francisco and the UC Board of Regents.

Ron's glass art pieces are in galleries and stores in St. Petersburg, Florida, Los Gatos, Santa Cruz, San Jose, Saratoga and Capitola California . Ron will participate in the Santa Cruz County Open Studios, in October 2006. His work was featured in an exhibit at the Glass Canvas Art Galley in St. Petersburg, Florida.
